Is your baby sleeping through the night? How did you do it?
I am expecting my third child and am wondering how people get their newborns to sleep through the night? My other two kids were 6+ months before sleeping through the night for more than 4 hours. Please share your secrets!
There are no secrets. THere are different babies who have different patterns.
Really, VERY few babies sleep the night from birth, or even in the first few months. They have tiny tummies, they need to eat often to get enough calories, and nature makes them wake often. (Deep and long night time sleep may increase the risk of SIDS.)
There are dozens of ‘sleep training’ books on the market, alll of which are written by authors who will swear that THEY have the secret to getting baby to sleep all night — but none of them come with guarantees, and most are based on some combination of ‘get baby onto a rigid schedule so he’ll sleep well at night’ and ‘leave baby to scream for hours [with or without 'patting him'] until he learns that his needs are unimportant, and no matter how much he cries, he’s not going to be fed — and he gives up.’
Your baby will sleep all night when she is able.
